What is the construction basis for seismic supports?

Update:Jan 15,2026

Seismic bracing systems provide effective protection for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical conduit systems during earthquakes; consequently, they must be capable of withstanding seismic forces regardless of the installation angle. Horizontal seismic loads are managed by seismic braces acting in two distinct directions: lateral braces handle lateral loads, while longitudinal braces handle longitudinal loads. All seismic braces must be securely connected to the structural framework—utilizing rigid connections for reinforced concrete beams, columns, and slabs, and flexible connections for steel structures—and must be verified through calculations by the design engineer.
